Just because you could doesn’t mean you should. I’m not sure who originally said it, but Jeff Goldblum comes pretty close in Jurassic Park. The scientists were so focused on making dinosaurs that they didn’t stop to consider if they should. (Spoiler: it didn’t work out well.)
At Christmas time, we do many things. Some could be nice, and others not so nice. We could rob a supermarket, or we could feed the homeless. We could take cookies to first responders, or we could steal cookies from the cookie jar. We could do a lot of things, but how do we know if we should do them?
In Acts 16:6, Paul and his companions decided to travel to Asia (in modern-day Turkey.) They COULD go. There was a road. They had feet. They knew the way. But God had other plans. He told them to NOT go to Asia. Instead, God had other, better plans for Paul and his companions. The point is, Paul could do a lot of things, but he would only do what God told him. That’s how he knew what he should do.
Now, how about us? Do we do whatever comes into our mind, or do we give way to the will of God? The world says, “Do what you want!” If we have been listening to the wisdom of the world, how is that working out?
Would you like to discover what God would have us do? Won’t you sit over an open Bible and see what God’s word can do for you? Drop by on Sunday morning!
