A friend from Germany visited Penelope, Texas. She had seen a map and intellectually understood that towns in Texas were separated by miles and miles. She did not truly understand it until she saw how long and empty the road was between Birome, Leroy, Penelope, and Malone.
John’s disciples had heard that Jesus was the Lamb of God. Twice. Now they followed Him and wanted to learn more about Jesus. They asked Him where He was staying. In John 1:39, Jesus tells them, “Come and see.” Just hearing about Jesus wasn’t enough to understand. They needed to spend time quality time with the Lamb of God.
Jesus’ invitation extends to the present day. His offer of salvation starts with a simple invitation, “Come and see.” You can hear about him from friends, family, the internet, newspapers, or TV. You cannot truly understand Him without spending quality time with Him. Today, we don’t physically walk down the road alongside Him, but that doesn’t prevent us from spending time in our Bibles and with the people of God who have responded to Jesus’ invitation.
Come and see. See for yourself what Jesus is all about. Jesus and His people may seem strange, but don’t knock it until you have tried it. Sit down with us over an open Bible and see what Jesus means when He said, “Come, and you will see.”
