Bring me a rock

In the Air Force, and probably the other branches as well, you don’t always get clear guidance on tasks. A boss once asked for a report on a long-range plan. After working on it for weeks, he said,  “I was thinking something with more clouds to indicate uncertainty.” So in went the cloud graphics only to hear, “Could you make them a little hazier?” I was stuck playing a game called “Bring me a rock.” How could I guess what he wanted unless he actually told me?

God doesn’t play “bring me a rock,” but it was still impossible to guess exactly what God was doing in the Old Testament. We can read of a coming Savior, but unless we know about Jesus, it doesn’t make a lot of sense. It was not until after Jesus died and was raised that it all made sense. A passage from Habakkuk 1:5 is quoted in Acts 13:41,”…I am doing a work in your days, a work that you will not believe, if one declares it to you.” Jesus was not the answer the Jews were expecting.

Jesus still isn’t the one many are expecting. Hollywood’s version of Jesus is not authentic. Politic’s version of Jesus is not authentic. He is both a lamb and one who slays with the words of his mouth. He is both a humble man and an almighty God. He is both Savior and Judge.

Do you want to learn about the authentic Jesus of Scripture? Stop guessing by listening to what men say about Jesus. Drop by Sunday morning and see for yourself.
