“Sir, you’re dehydrated.” The sergeant was checking how long the pale, pinched hands took to regain color. After ambush training, he checked everyone, including observers.
“I know.” There was zero chance of me taking a lift from medical staff, especially in front of cadets. “I’m fine.”
Half an hour later, we got to the water buffalo. No one would have stood in my way if I walked up to it to refill my water first, but I waited. My shift was over, and the cadets had a lot more day left. No one denied me water except me.
It is written in Acts 10:47, “Can any forbid the water that these should be baptized, who have received the Holy Spirit even as we have?” Something special had happened to Cornelius’ household. The Holy Spirit fell on them as it had on the apostles in Acts 2. This sign showed God had chosen Gentiles to be part of the kingdom just as Jews were. Because of the mighty sign, Peter asked the semi-rhetorical question. Could anyone deny them water? No one with a conscience would have.
Today, we don’t see the working of miracles described in the New Testament. We still have water, though, lots and lots of it. If a soul comes to God, would any person with a conscience deny water for them to be baptized? Sadly, many do. They say, “God won’t save me!” Or they say something similar. Just as we would not deny others, we must get out of our own way. Let God do His part; he does it very well.Have you considered becoming a Christian but feel you can’t?
