No Witnesses

Bob knew it was a perfect crime. He carried out in the dead of night. There were no witnesses, and there were no co-conspirators. Two years later, he heard the verdict and the gavel and began his long life of incarceration. How could Bob have found himself in this situation if there were no witnesses? There was evidence that didn’t require a dramatic, “Please point at the man you saw.” “No witnesses” is not the same thing as “no witness.”

In Acts 14:16, 17, Paul tells the crowd at Lystra that God did not leave Himself without witness. What witness did He leave that shows evidence of His existence? Rain from heaven, harvest, and hearts satisfied with food and gladness. The fact that these things exist, the fact that anything exists, is a witness to God, and that witness calls us to walk in God’s ways rather than our own.

Philosophy tends toward dull and dry questions of potentially over-educated people. One philosophy question is, “Why does anything exist rather than nothing at all?” From Acts 14, the answer is, “To call us to God.”

Are you tired of trying to walk in your own way, only to find your way feels like a treadmill that never actually goes anywhere? Give God a chance. Review the evidence He has left and then see how fulfilling this life (and the next) can be. Drop by Sunday!
