Who are you, Lord?

Sometimes, life shows up at your doorstep, chews you up, and spits you on the floor. We make plans, work towards goals, and then life goes sideways. In those moments of life, we might cry out to the sky in frustration. In those moments, we can cry out to God.

In Acts 9, Saul is rolling through life very successfully. He has been purifying Judaism of intolerable Christians in Judea and Jerusalem. He obtains a commission to go to a foreign land to ferret out unfaithful Jews who turned to Christianity. Saul has the trust and confidence of the Jewish leaders. He is somebody who is doing big things for Israel.

And then Acts 9:3 happens. Saul is struck blind by a bright light. Being blind would really hamper any aspirations he might have had to become a teachers of teachers. He hears a voice from the heavens asking a hard question, “why are you persecuting Me?” If a voice from Heaven speaks, this is not the sort of thing you want to hear. Saul went from taking the tiger by the tail and transitioned into the business end of an angry God. He had plans, but now they had to be abandoned. Jesus gave Saul new plans – he was to go to Damascus to learn what he must do – and it had nothing to do with dragging Christians to prison.

Today, what do we do when confronted with sudden changes. Saul’s world was crumbling at his feet, but Saul chose Jesus as his Master. No matter what circumstances we find ourselves in, the same Jesus is calling us today. No matter how glamorous or successful, any life we leave behind is worthless compared to an eternity with God.

How is your life? Are you rolling along just fine, or is the world crumbling at your feet? Don’t cry out to the sky in frustration. Sit down with me over an open Bible, and let’s study who the Lord is and what He has planned for us.
