It’s All Your Fault!

The ground falls from underneath us. We tumble down in despair. We think, “What did I do to deserve this?” Maybe it is a medical diagnosis, death of a loved one, loss of a job, or a relationship breaking, but we feel a need to blame someone, anyone, for our problems.

In John 9:2, the disciples ask Jesus about a blind man, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents that he was born blind?” The question shows how humans throughout history have thought. If it is bad, it must be someone’s fault.

In John 9:3, Jesus answers the question, “It was neither this man nor his parents, but that the works of God may be displayed in him.” Jesus answers the question by changing the perspective on the problem. The situation wasn’t a reason for blame, but an opportunity for that blind man to glorify God!

How do I glorify God when I am sitting in an infusion room getting chemotherapy? How do I glorify God at the funeral home saying goodbye to my loved one? How do I glorify God when people are going around saying hurtful things to me and about me? First, obey Christ as your Master. Second, change your perspective. Third, let God’s light shine brighter in a darker world, by reacting to situations with grace and dignity rather than distress and despair.

Jesus died a horrible death on the cross. He used it as an opportunity to bring hope into a dying world. Why? It’s all your fault. Become His disciple!

Won’t you sit down over an open Bible and study about Jesus? See you Sunday at 9:30 or 10:45!
