“There’s your problem!” He found the problem. The air conditioner stopped, but that was a symptom, not the cause. A short in the outlet literally burned away the metal prongs. Fix the outlet, and the AC will sort itself out. Why did I need help to figure out the problem? I focused on the wrong thing.
The religious leaders of Jesus’ day focused on the wrong things. They dressed and acted holy, but failed to actually be holy. In John 1:29, John tried to refocus their attention on God rather than themselves when he said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” John’s mission was simply to point to Jesus. Jesus would do the rest.
Jesus should still be our focus today. If we do that, all of the problems with crime, politics, and ourselves will sort themselves out. Look to Jesus, and He will take care of the rest. Focus on Jesus rather than the broke things. Focus on Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
Today, our mission is the same as John’s. Point to Jesus. Get others to look at Jesus. Let Jesus handle all the rest. Would you behold the Lamb of God? Sit down with us over an open Bible and study how Jesus takes care of all the rest.
