You Can’t Get There From Here

by | Oct 2, 2020

There was a story about a tourist in London trying to get to Big Ben, or maybe it was about trying to get to Great Bend, or perhaps I don’t really remember it at all. The point was that the tourist kept hearing, “You can’t get there from here.”

The Bible doesn’t leave those passing through this life with that discouragement. It is wrong to say you can’t get to Heaven from here. Anyone can, so long as the directions are followed. In John 14:6, Jesus gives the directions. “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

This is good news! Jesus is the way to the Father, the truth, eternal life, and Heaven. Paul would later write that he, Paul, was the greatest of sinners, and if Jesus could save Paul, who actively sought to imprison and kill Christians, then He can save anybody. That includes you.

Jesus also claims He is the only way, truth, and life. The statement is not, “I am A way, A truth, and A life,” but it is “THE way, THE truth, and THE life.” Christianity is an exclusive religion. There is no other way, but through Jesus. Jesus is the only route to the Father. Having said that Christianity is an exclusive religion; it is also an inclusive religion. There is always room for more. That could include you if you follow Jesus.

Drop by on Sunday, or sit down with me over an open Bible and see what works (John 14:12) Jesus calls us to. Wherever you are, you CAN get there from here.
