You Didn’t Say, “Simon Says!”

by | Apr 4, 2020

Do you remember playing that game with neighbors and friends as a kid? The idea was to get someone confused and not really listening, then you would gleefully say, “Jump like a frog!” Then  one of the other kids would – but you didn’t say, “Simon says” so he was out of the game. Perhaps you were on the other end of the game doing frog jumps? That was a “gotcha” game, and we tried to trick the others into doing something.

The God of the Bible is not a “gotcha” God. He does not keep secrets about how He wants us to live our lives. There is not, nor will there ever be a “Simon says” in the Bible. He tells us, plainly, in His word.

How do I know this? It is written in John 20:30-31, “Many other signs therefore did Jesus in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book: but these are written, that ye may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye may have life in his name.”

The things written in the book of John, and all of the Bible, produce belief. Not everything is written down, but all that is necessary is. There are no, “Simon Says” parts of the Bible. We can have everlasting life! You can have everlasting life, and you can be certain about it. Do you want that for yourself? If so, won’t you join me on a journey through the gospel of John over the next weeks? I hope to see you next Friday, and any given Sunday after we are released from isolation…!
