In Mark 6:45-52 we read about Jesus walking on the water. In this account, Jesus sent the disciples ahead of Him to the other side of the Sea of Galilee while He went up the mountain to pray. It was very late at night/early in the morning and the wind blew, causing the water to be rough. It is not revealed how bad the sea was, but it was enough that fishermen struggled painfully to make headway. The weather was bad.
From the perspective of the disciples, what must they have been thinking? Jesus had told them to go across the lake, surely He would not have sent them into a dangerous situation, would He? If ever there was a time for Jesus to be there, now was that time!
From Jesus’ perspective, He saw them from the mountain. It is not realistic that He saw them with merely human eyes. It was the darkest part of the night, the waves were high, the electric lights had not been invented yet. Nevertheless, Jesus saw them. Jesus is God. They could not see Him, but He never lost sight of them.
From our perspective today, no matter how dark or stormy our world appears, God never loses sight of us, even when we can’t see Him. If we ask today, “God, where are You?” His answer would be, “The same place I always am.” Don’t you want a God like that watching over you?
