When the Air Force stationed my dad overseas, the only real disadvantage of living “on the economy” was a lack of US TV programs. If you lived close enough to base, you could watch the Armed Forces Network, but we lived too far away. Somehow, one of the American families in our village had access to the A-Team. Yes, I watched the A-Team (1980s), and I liked it.
One of the main characters on the A-Team was “Hannibal.” At the end of an episode, his line was, “I love it when a plan comes together.” I always thought this a weird statement since the plan never actually seemed to go according to plan. But thanks to the power of “script,” it always seemed to work out in the end.
God is nothing like the A-Team. He makes plans, and they work exactly as He intends them. If we read Acts 2:16, we see that the prophet Joel had predicted the day of Pentecost recorded in Acts 2. Joel was written hundreds of years before the events of Acts 2.

It is written in Acts 2:23, “this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God…” (ESV). Jesus’ death on the cross was no accident. Neither the Jews nor the Romans ever thwarted God. Jesus lived knowing the fate that awaited Him. He knew both the death and the victory of the cross – long before it ever happened.
God is nothing like the A-Team. He makes plans, and they work exactly as He intends. It is then written in Acts 2:25 that David, a thousand years before, had written of Jesus and His glory, His death, and His resurrection. God did not call an audible at the last minute; His plan started even before the foundation of the earth (Ephesians 1:4). The crucifixion of Jesus did not fall into place at the last minute but was carefully and inexorably carried out according to God’s definite plan and foreknowledge. Jesus had to die on the cross. Jesus had to bear the punishment of our sins. Jesus had to be raised up.
